Backtesting workspace for Indian markets

Replay the market.
Prove the edge before you risk capital.

Recapper walks NSE price action forward one candle at a time. You take the trade with the chart half-drawn — no hindsight, no scrolling ahead — and every entry, exit and note is timestamped against the bar it was taken on.

Why backtests lie

Most “proven” strategies were reviewed with the answer visible.

Scrolling a chart backwards is not a test. The exits look obvious, the losing weeks get skipped, and the sample is whatever you remember. Recapper removes all three shortcuts.

Hindsight is sealed off

The chart stops at the current replay bar. Future candles do not exist until you step forward, so the entry you take is the entry you would have taken.

The reasoning is captured

Notes and screenshots attach to the trade at the moment it is placed — not reconstructed on Sunday evening when the outcome is already known.

Sample size is visible

Every session reports its trade count next to its win rate, so a 70% edge over nine trades never gets mistaken for a proven system.

The workspace

Three surfaces, one loop: plan, replay, review.

Sessions

Scope an experiment, not a vague “backtest”

A session pins one strategy to one instrument and one date range. Rerun it, duplicate it with a tweak, and compare the two honestly — the scope never drifts mid-test.

  • Progress tracking so a half-finished test is never read as a result.
  • Duplicate and fork to change one variable at a time.
  • Session scorecard with realised P&L, return, win rate and executions.

Trade the bar you are standing on

Step candle by candle or run at 8× while the tape unfolds. Place market, limit and stop orders from the ticket, manage the position live, and let the fill logic price your slippage instead of assuming it away.

  • Keyboard first — step, buy, sell and note without leaving the chart.
  • Drawing tools that persist across sessions and replays.
  • Position panel with live unrealised P&L and R multiple.

Review the decision, not just the P&L

Every execution lands in the ledger with its note, its risk and the bar it happened on. The dashboard then rolls sessions up into equity, drawdown and expectancy so patterns surface across tests, not inside one lucky week.

  • Trade ledger with side, size, R multiple and reasoning.
  • Portfolio view across every session and instrument.
  • Tags and filters to isolate the setups that actually pay.

How a test runs

From idea to verdict in one sitting.

Write the strategy

Entry, exit and invalidation in plain words, saved once and reused by every session that tests it.

Scope the session

Pick the instrument, the timeframe and the window. The session locks that scope for the whole run.

Replay and decide

Step the tape forward, take the trades your rules allow, and write the note while the outcome is still unknown.

Review the sample

Read expectancy, drawdown and the losing trades together. Keep the edge, or kill it with evidence.

Questions

No. Recapper is a research and review workspace. You replay historical price action and record the decisions you would have taken; nothing is routed to an exchange, and no order ever leaves the app.

NSE equities and index instruments, from 1-minute candles up to daily. Sessions are scoped to a date range, so you can rerun the same window as many times as you like without the outcome leaking backwards.

One strategy and one session, with the complete replay engine, order ticket and journal behind them. It is time-unlimited: keep the session as a permanent reference if that is all you need.

A spreadsheet records what you remember after the fact. Recapper timestamps every entry, exit and note against the bar it was taken on, so the review shows the decision as it actually happened.

Yes, from billing settings, effective at the end of the current cycle. Your sessions, trades and notes stay readable on the free tier even after a paid plan lapses.

Your next strategy deserves a real test.

Open a session, replay a quarter of price action, and find out whether the edge survives contact with the tape.
